The NBA has fined Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart $50,000 for shoving Philadelphia 76ers centre Joel Embiid during the third quarter of the teams’ meeting on Wednesday at Wells Fargo Center.
This is the third time this season Smart has been fined for unsportsmanlike conduct, which played a role in the penalty handed down by the NBA this time around, according to the league.
“Smart’s fine was also based on his repeated acts of unsportsmanlike conduct during NBA games, including two prior incidents this season which have resulted in fines,” the NBA announced in a press release.
Smart was assessed a Flagrant Foul 2 and an automatic ejection in the play.
In 71 games this season, the 25-year-old guard has averaged 8.7 points, 4.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds for the Celtics.
