The world relived Michael Jordan’s two-sport career during The Last Dance but another NBA legend almost left the association for a different sport.
LeBron James, who played football in high school, said he seriously considered making a career change during the 2011 NBA lockout and began to train for football.
“I had no idea how long the lockout was going to be and myself and my trainer, Mike Mancias, we really started to actually train to be a football player when it came to, like, October and November,” James said in a Zoom chat with Maverick Carter and Paul Rivera. “We started to clock our times with the 40s, we started to add a little bit more in our bench presses and things of that nature. We started to add more sled to our agenda and our workouts.”

According to Carter, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones even offered James a contract during the 2011 NBA lockout.
“I know he got a contract from Jerry Jones that he framed and put in his office,” Carter said.
The NBA lockout ultimately ended with a new CBA agreed on Dec. 8 and James returned to the court instead of the gridiron, leaving sports fans only left to wonder, what if?
