Watching the Raptors getting killed on the boards and beaten in transition time and time again in LA made me wonder: This can’t be what Bryan Colangelo had in mind when he stated that this year’s version of the Raptors was the best he’s had here and were built to go deep into the playoffs.
Right now they look more like a team built to battle for eighth place in the conference
So far this season, the Raptors are 0-5 when facing teams that are top four in their respective conference and 8-3 against the rest of the league.
While a week ago the team was having problems with turnovers and giving up too many open looks, now it’s back to the poor rebounding and, what was on Sunday night, a lack of effort to get back on the defensive end.
It’s becoming pretty clear Colangelo either overestimated the talent he has or underestimated the rest of the league. Either way, if the Raptors have any desire to get past the first round of the playoffs, changes have to be made.
That’s the tricky part. As stated before, the Raptors have little to work with when it comes to cap space so Colangelo will have to either make some trades or look at changing the coach.
Since any moves have to be creative ones, I’m curious to know what you, the Raptor fans, think the GM should do.
Do you deal Andrea Bargnani? Package guys like Jason Kapono and Anthony Parker? How about Jamario Moon?
Remember, in any deal you’re also trading salaries so don’t think you can send a player earning $1-million and take back $5million in salary.
Of course, there’s also option two which would be fire Mitchell. Money would also be an issue there since he has one more season and about $4 million owed to him..
So time for you armchair GMs to get working!
