Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan is spending his off-season working out in Los Angeles and footage has emerged of the Raptors star putting on an impressive performance in the Drew League, an annual summer pro-am league that attracts a lot of NBA players.
The video below shows DeRozan, playing for MHP, hang a 38-point, 13-rebound, 10-assist triple-double on Hank’s New Image.
Sure, the handle looks tight, the passing was crisp and on time, and that 360 slam at the end was sweet, but what should be of particular interest to Raptors fans should be the clips of his jumpers and where he’s taking them from.
A large number of the shots DeRozan was seen hitting in the video were from all over three-point territory, a known weakness of DeMar as he gets ready for his seventh NBA season.
The soon-to-be 26-year old is a career 27 per cent three-point shooter, with a career-high shooting mark of 30.5 per cent in the 2013-14 season — the one time he was named an all-star.
Three-point shooting is more important than ever in the NBA so seeing DeRozan splashing from deep – no matter how suspect the defence – is an encouraging sign.
DeRozan has a reputation for being a hard off-season worker and always seems to come back into training camp with something new added to his game. Could this be a sign of things to come next season?
