According to reports, 2013 No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett has been waived by the Brooklyn Nets.

The first Canadian to earn the distinction of being a top pick, the Brampton, ON native will see his 2016-17 season cut short after appearing in 23 games for the Nets. During that span, Bennett averaged five points and 3.4 rebounds in just over 11 minutes per game.

It’s a disappointing outcome for the 23 year-old power forward, who was playing on his fourth team in four seasons since the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted him in 2013 after a dominant collegiate season at UNLV. Bennett failed to establish himself during stops in Minnesota, Toronto, and now Brooklyn, leaving his NBA future up in the air.

While Bennett is clearly talented, he’s been unable to find consistency or a meaningful role throughout his time in the NBA.

ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that Bennett will be replaced with another former Raptor, Quincy Acy, who the Nets plan to sign to a 10-day contract.
