On all-new Free Association—Sportsnet’s weekly Raptors & NBA podcast—hosts Dave Zarum & JD Bunkis take a break from the day-to-day NBA madness and take a deep dive into the world of basketball documentaries. From Hoop Dreams to Once Brothers and beyond, the guys talk about what makes a great hoops doc, and share some of their favourites.

Then, Jason Reid, the director of Sonicsgate, a 2009 documentary on the Sonics upheaval from Seattle to Oklahoma City, calls in to talk about the film and the process of getting it made— and how it was this close to being made into Major League 4.

And, to top it all off, Dave and JD pitch their ideas for the next great basketball documentary.

What’s your idea for a basketball documentary that hasn’t been made yet? Let us know in the comments below and we’ll share your ideas on an upcoming episode.
