Gotta See It: DeMar DeRozan throws ball at Drew League referee

DeMar DeRozan arguing with a referee at The Drew League.

DeMar DeRozan‘s time in the Drew League over the years has been memorable, to say the least. The three-time NBA all-star has posterized James Harden, and has also taught the No. 1 high school prospect in the country a couple of lessons.

But with competition comes frustration.

That was the case this past weekend when DeRozan threw a ball at a referee as he and his team, M.H.P., were in the final seconds of a losing effort. It was a sad ending to DeRozan’s 41-point performance.

Those that have watched DeRozan in the past know it’s very uncommon to see the Toronto Raptors shooting guard this angry during a game. He’s only been ejected four times over the course of his 636-game NBA career.

The Drew League, a basketball tournament in South Central, L.A., is known to be one of the most competitive and popular round robins in the world. After what DeRozan believed to be some poor calls during his game on Sunday, the L.A. native retaliated by complaining to the referee and eventually throwing the ball with force in his direction.

With the help of Nick Young and with the game in its dying seconds, DeRozan proceed to leave the court as M.H.P. fell to 2-5 this summer.
