Grizzlies’ Gay suspended for flagrant foul

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Grizzlies star Rudy Gay has been suspended one game without pay after a flagrant foul in the fourth quarter of a game against Houston.

Gay was ejected after being given a flagrant-two foul with about six minutes left in the fourth quarter of the game Friday night. He knocked Luis Scola to the ground in the lane as Shane Battier made a three-point shot.

The Grizzlies trailed 94-74 at the time of his ejection and he led the team with 19 points.

NBA vice-president Stu Jackson announced the suspension Saturday. Gay was due to sit out the Grizzlies’ game against the San Antonio Spurs.

NBA hands out more discipline

NEW YORK — Denver Nuggets coach George Karl and Portland Trail Blazers guard Andre Miller have each been fined US$25,000 by the NBA for separate incidents.

NBA vice-president Stu Jackson announced the punishments Saturday.

Karl was fined for public comments about the officiating following the Nuggets’ 113-112 home loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday.

Miller was fined for throwing the ball in the stands following the Blazers’ 103-98 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.
