Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the not-so-warm welcome his team received in his absence at TD Garden on Wednesday night.
Irving didn’t play in the game against his former team due to a right shoulder injury and isn’t travelling with the team, but that didn’t stop fans from letting their collective voice be heard, raining down chants of “Kyrie sucks!” throughout the course of the game, which Boston eventually took 121-110.

The contest would’ve marked Irving’s first time on Celtics hardwood since he left the team in free agency last summer, opting instead to join forces with superstar Kevin Durant and form a dynamic duo in Brooklyn. Celtics fans had long awaited the opportunity to get their digs in at their former star, since Irving had verbally announced prior to the 2018-19 season that he planned to re-sign with Boston before walking back those comments last February.
Some fans also posted fliers across the street from the arena that depicted an image of Irving’s face and the word “Coward” stamped across it.
The Nets will play the Celtics again Friday in Brooklyn, although Irving’s status remains unknown.
After that, the two clubs will face each other only once more on March 21 in Boston.
