Canadian Jay Triano will serve as the lead assistant coach of the Charlotte Hornets in 2018-19.

Triano was the Phoenix Suns‘ interim head coach last season, taking over after Earl Watson was fired three games into the campaign. The Suns would finish the season with a 21–58 record under his tenure.

Phoenix hired Igor Kokoškov on May 2.

Triano coached the Toronto Raptors for three seasons from 2008-2011, amassing an 87-142 record over that time. A team has never reached the playoffs with the 59-year-old at the helm.

Charlotte signed former San Antonio Spurs assistant James Borrego as its head coach earlier this month.
