New York Knicks rookie RJ Barrett has been ruled out for the remainder of Thursday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns after suffering a right ankle sprain midway through the third quarter, the team announced.

The incident occurred on a Barrett drive to the basket where he appeared to stumble and roll his ankle before wildly losing the ball in the air and taking a spill into the stanchion.

He was then able to rise under his own power and shoot the subsequent free throws before making his way back to the locker room.

No further details on the severity of the injury or if Barrett will miss additional action have been made available by the team at this time.

In a dismal Knicks season (the club is currently 11–30, the third-worst mark in the league), the third-overall pick from 2019’s draft has been one of the few shining rays of hope for the franchise and its fan base.

Barrett is averaging 14.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 39.5 per cent shooting in 31.7 minutes this season.
