Bugs Bunny, LeBron James and Ryan Coogler want to welcome you back to the Jam.
After years of speculation, it’s official: Space Jam 2 is in production.
In a tweet teased by James’ SpringHill Entertainment company, a locker room that shows stalls for the famous Warner Bros. animated rabbit, James and Black Panther director Coogler are shown, confirming that a sequel to the much-beloved 1996 cartoon basketball extravaganza starring Michael Jordan is in production.

A story from The Hollywood Reporter says production of the film is slated to begin in 2019, during James’ NBA off-season, and will see LeBron in a starring role in the film, just like Jordan.
Coogler’s Black Panther raked in approximately $1.3 billion at the box office. He will act as a producer on the film with Terry Nance given directorial duties.
“The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie,” James told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people [with Black Panther].”
There’s been no word yet of Quad City DJ’s involvement in this project.
