Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin has a torn meniscus in his left knee that will require surgery, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The 23-year-old American will be forced to sit out the 2012 London Games, but expects to be back in time for Clippers training camp next fall.
This isn’t the first time Griffin’s left knee has caused him problems, as surgery on the joint caused him to miss his entire rookie campaign in 2009-10. Griffin also sprained the knee during the 2012 playoffs.
Griffin, who averaged 20.7 points and 10.9 rebounds in 2011-12, signed a max five-year, US$95-million contract extension with the Clippers on Wednesday.
