Marion to Mavericks in 4-team trade

According to reports, the Toronto Raptors will send Shawn Marion to Dallas in a convoluted four-team trade which would free up cap space to re-sign Carlos Delfino.

Citing sources close to the negotiations, ESPN.com is reporting the Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic have agreed to a trade in principle and have scheduled a meeting with the league Thursday to make the deal official.

The deal would break down like this:

– Dallas Mavericks acquire Shawn Marion and Kris Humphries from Toronto and Greg Buckner from Memphis. Marion would then receive a five-year contract worth an estimated $39 million from dallas. Buckner will likely be released.

– The Grizzlies acquire Jerry Stackhouse from Dallas, Quincy Douby from Toronto and a cash payment to buy out Stackhouse’s contract.

– The Raptors receive Devean George and Antoine Wright from the Mavericks, and change their acquisiton of Hedo Turkoglu into a sign-and-trade as opposed to an outright signing. The sign-and-trade will preserve their $5.9 million mid-level exception for the coming season. This would free up cap space to re-sign Carlos Delfino which they would have been unable to do in a straight signing of Turkoglu.

– Orlando Magic create up to $7 million in extra cap space by making the Turkoglu signing a sign-and-trade instead.
