The Miami Heat are set to honour power forward Chris Bosh by retiring his jersey at American Airlines Arena on March 26.
After spending the first seven seasons of his career with the Toronto Raptors, Bosh joined the Heat along with LeBron James in the 2010 off-season, forming a dynamic Big Three completed by Dwyane Wade. That group then went on reach four straight NBA Finals, winning two NBA championships over that span with Bosh serving as a key piece in those title runs.
Bosh played 384 career games with Miami, averaging 18 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists on 49.7 shooting from the field while with the team.
Following James’ return to Cleveland for the 2014-15 season, Bosh opted to re-sign with Miami on a five-year, $118 million contract. Unfortunately, though, the former Georgia Tech product wasn’t able to complete the terms of his deal due to recurring blood clot issues.
The Heat were able to avoid paying the remainder of Bosh’s salary when they elected to waive him in July of 2017. At the time of the announcement, Heat president Pat Riley said in a statement that Bosh was “without a doubt, one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise.”
Bosh last appeared in an NBA game on Feb. 9, 2016 and will become the fourth Heat player — Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway and Shaquille O’Neal are the others — to have their jersey retired.
