The NBA has crossed another meaningful hurdle on its path to resuming.
On Monday, the league announced that of the 346 players in the Orlando bubble who were tested for COVID-19 since July 13, zero have returned positive tests.
Information on coaches and other team personnel’s test results have not been made available by the league at this time.
Two players returned positive tests during the initial arrival period, and a few players have had to quarantine for extended periods due to rule infractions, but despite these events, the integrity of the NBA bubble appears to have endured the arrival of players.
Vigilance in ensuring that trend continues will be essential, as COVID-19 case numbers in Orlando continue to rise at alarming rates.
Florida as a whole has become the epicentre of the outbreak in the United States. Orange County specifically, where Orlando is located, has seen over 23,500 cases overall and more than 5,250 in just the last seven days as of Monday night, according to a database maintained by The New York Times.
NBA scrimmages are set to begin on Wednesday. Each team is scheduled for three practice games before the season resumes on July 30.
