What you missed in the NBA: Week 5

Play of the week

Ok, half-court buzzer beaters are nothing new, but Jarrett Jack’s pose while the ball is in flight combined with his celebration with Draymond Green is priceless.

Misplay of the week

The Houston Rockets are thrilled with the steady offensive output of Omer Asik so far this season. But just make sure the ball goes in the right basket Omer.

Dunk of the week

Gotta love it when a player can grab a defensive rebound, go coast to coast while cutting through the Lakers defence, and finishing over a shot-blocker like Dwight Howard. Folks, Danilo Gallinari is not just a shooter.

Block of the week

Larry Sanders has erupted onto the NBA scene this year and made life very difficult on the Timberwolves this week recording his first career triple-double, including 10 blocks (three in one play!).

How the Canadians fared (stats are per game)

Tristan Thompson (Cavaliers): 26.3 min, 6.7 pts, 9.0 reb, 0.3 ast, 1.0 blk

Samuel Dalembert (Bucks): 16.3 min, 1.3 pts, 4.7 reb, 1.0 blk

Andrew Nicholson (Magic): 10.0 min, 9.0 pts, 1.5 reb, 0.0 blk

Cory Joseph (Spurs): Recalled from minors, played three of 4 games; 10.3 min, 2.3 pts, 2.0 ast, 1,0 reb

Joel Anthony (Heat): 4.0 min, 1.0 pts, 0.0 reb, 0.0 blk

Kris Joseph (Celtics): Played one game; 5.0 min, 2.0 pts,

Steve Nash (Lakers): Didn’t play due to broken leg.

Robert Sacre (Lakers): Assigned to the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League.

Trending Up: Stephen Curry

Taking on more of a leadership role with no Monta Ellis by his side, Stephen Curry has lead the Warriors to an impressive 10-6 start. He has two double-doubles in a row and has scored at least 20 points in six of his last seven games. He’s been incredibly efficient as well, shooting 91 per cent from the charity stripe and 41 per cent from downtown.

Trending Down: Damian Lillard

After a hot start to his NBA career, Lillard has come down to earth a bit. Although he’s more of a scoring point guard, he is jacking up way too many shots and his percentage from the field in his last three games is below 29 per cent. If he doesn’t turn into more of a facilitator and improve upon his meager 5.5 assists per game, LaMarcus Aldridge, Wesley Matthews and Nicolas Batum could become more than a little frustrated over the lack of distribution from the Weber State product.

Line of the week

Although Russell Westbrook had eight turnovers, he flirted with a quadruple-double Friday night, finishing with 23 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals in a win over the Jazz.
