In case you missed it: NBA Week 1

Play of the week

After missing his first three attempts from downtown, Brandon Jennings hit a high-arching buzzer beater over an outstretched Anderson Varejao to beat the Cavaliers.

Misplay of the week

Aaron Brooks spent the last year in China and returned to the NBA as a member of the Kings but unfortunately broke his tooth in his debut while battling for a loose ball with Kirk Hinrich.

How the Canadians fared

Tristan Thompson (Cavaliers): 9.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 2.0 APG

Andrew Nicholson (Magic): 2.0 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 1.0 APG

Samuel Dalembert (Bucks): 1.0 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 0.5 BPG

Trending Up (fantasy player)

Damian Lillard is averaging 20.3 points and nine assists over his first three NBA games. Those numbers aren’t inflated due to a huge game either as the Weber State product has been very consistent and figures to be the legitimate front-runner for Rookie of the Year after Week 1.

Trending Down (fantasy player)

Fantasy teams looking for a starting centre late in their drafts turned to Samuel Dalembert. However, over his first two games, Dalembert has a combined two points and five rebounds while backup bigs Larry Sanders and Ekpe Udoh are getting twice the playing time.

Dunk of the week

Tim "Slam" Duncan throws one down over last year’s blocks leader, Serge Ibaka.

Block of the week

The Lakers are winless (including preseason) but Dwight Howard has still managed to put up big numbers and make himself a force on the defensive end. Watch as he gives rookie Damian Lillard a rude welcoming to the NBA.

Line of the week (best stat line)

James Harden’s career-high 45 points on Friday was slightly bettered by Saturday’s more well-rounded 37 points, 12 assists, six rebounds, and four steals.

Matchup of the week (Nov. 5-11)

This might not be the sexiest matchup but the game on Friday, Nov. 9 between the New Orleans Hornets and Charlotte Bobcats will feature the top two picks from the 2012 draft (Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist) if Davis does indeed return from a mild concussion suffered last Friday night against the Jazz.

Tweet of the week

Warriors guard Stephen Curry was impressed with coach Mark Jackson’s sensei-like prose and so too was his brother Seth (now a senior at Duke).
