In Canada, Toronto Raptors fever is at an all-time high, eclipsing even the excitement of the Vince Carter days of the early 2000s.

During the Carter era Chuck Swirsky was play-by-play voice of the Raptors, first on radio and then on television from 1998-2008. With the Raptors in the midst of another exciting playoffs, it’s the perfect time to reminisce on some former Raptors greats.

Earlier this season I sat down with Swirsky to jog his memory — with the help of some photos — from some of his iconic calls and the star players he connected with throughout his time with the franchise.

In the first instalment, Swirsky tells stories of Toronto Raptors fan favourites like Matt Bonner, Morris Peterson and Chris Bosh.

In the second instalment, Swirsky describes what it was like to call games during the Vince Carter era and how Vince compared head-to-head versus Michael Jordan.

In the final instalment, Swirksy explains how his famous “salami and cheese” moniker came about and what it meant to him to be part of the growth of basketball in Canada.
