Assistant coach Adrian Griffin will act the head coach for the Toronto Raptors as they face the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

The move will allow Griffin to get a chance to gain experience in a head coach position, with Nick Nurse watching the game from a different angle and perspective. According to Sportsnet’s Michael Grange, Nurse has promoted his staff as potential head coaches and this move is part of that action.

“Awesome gesture by coach, he approached me with it,” Griffin said.

With the Raptors locking up the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference earlier this week, OG Anunoby and Serge Ibaka will sit out Wednesday’s game against the 76ers. They join Oshae Brissett and Patrick McCaw, who were scratched due to knee soreness.
