The Toronto Raptors have assigned guard Norman Powell to the NBA Development League affiliate Raptors 905.
A second-round selection in the 2015 draft, Powell’s rights and protected future first-round pick were traded to Toronto in exchange for Greivis Vasquez.
Powell has seen sparse playing time in his rookie season with the Raptors, averaging just 5.9 minutes per game over 12 appearances.
Hailing from San Diego, Calif., Powell played four seasons of collegiate basketball at UCLA, improving his scoring average each season.
The 22-year-old is expected to be in the lineup Saturday afternoon when the 905 take on the Delaware 87ers.
Like fellow Raptors draft picks playing in Mississauga, Powell will remain on Toronto’s roster and has been placed on the team’s inactive list.
