Toronto Raptors forward DeMarre Carroll is out indefinitely with a right knee contusion that he’s been dealing with for the past few weeks.

The Raptors announced the news prior to Monday’s 102-93 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Lakers.

Carroll said the injury happened during Toronto’s 91-80 win over the Clippers at Staples Centre on Nov. 22, when he bumped into L.A. centre DeAndre Jordan on a play.

"I remember it, I thought it was just the knee swelling up," Carroll said Monday night. "But a couple days ago I was like ‘it’s not getting any smaller.’ It was still swollen so I went and saw a specialist today."

"He (the specialist) was kind of surprised that I’ve been playing on it," Carroll added. "I can take pain. It was just one of those things. I’ve been playing two and a half weeks on it and it hasn’t gotten better."

Lucas Nogueira was also sidelined for the game against the Lakers with a sprained ankle.

Carroll was a key part of the Raptors’ off-season makeover, and the defensive specialist and former Atlanta Hawk has averaged 12.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 34.2 minutes in 18 games as a Raptor — all starts.

He had a season-high 21 points on two occasions: Oct. 30 at Boston and Nov. 22 at the Los Angeles Clippers.
