The ballots are in and while Dwane Casey did not win the NBA’s Coach of the Year award, the Raptors head coach did get a fair bit of respect from the voters.
The NBA announced on Tuesday that the Golden State Warriors’ Steve Kerr received the award after helping lead the Dubs to an NBA-record 73 wins.
Casey finished fifth in voting, behind (in order) Kerr, Portland’s Terry Stotts, San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich, and Charlotte’s Steve Clifford. But Casey did manage to earn six first-place votes, to go with 12 2nd-place votes and 17 3rd-place votes.
Casey coached the Raptors to a franchise-best 56 wins, improving on last year’s 49 wins, which was then a franchise record, too. The Raptors have increased their win total each of Casey’s five seasons in Toronto.
