Raptors’ Fred VanVleet leaves game vs. 76ers with knee injury

Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet left the game with a right knee contusion, after getting tangled up with Sixers' Joel Embiid.

Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet was forced to leave Monday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers with a right knee contusion. The severity of the injury is unknown but the team announced VanVleet would not return to the game.

VanVleet sustained the injury early in the fourth quarter after having a layup attempt blocked by Joel Embiid. The block sent VanVleet crashing to the ground and his right knee hit the hardwood with force before Embiid landed on him.

The 23-year-old had eight points and two rebounds in 15 minutes of playing time against the Sixers.

Prior to Monday’s game, VanVleet had been averaging 6.9 points, 2.9 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 18.1 minutes per game in 41 appearances this season. He scored a team high 22 points in Thursday’s 133-99 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
