Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry may play in Thursday’s highly-anticipated matchup on the road versus the San Antonio Spurs, the team announced this morning.
Entering game day listed as ‘doubtful’ to compete in San Antonio, Lowry’s status was upgraded to ‘questionable’ and Raptors head coach Nick Nurse says the four-time all-star will take part in shootaround and be re-evaluated before determining whether or not he’ll suit up.
Lowry has missed eight of the Raptors’ last nine games and four in a row while dealing with a lower back injury. The team has a 5-4 record in that span.
The 32-year-old visited a specialist in New York City on December 29 where he received anti-inflammatory injections and earlier this week the Raptors announced that there is no clear timetable on Lowry’s full-time return from injury.

Prior to the injury, Lowry was in the midst of arguably his best season to date while averaging a career-high 9.8 assists per game, currently second in the NBA.
In Toronto’s first game against DeMar DeRozan since trading himto the Spurs last summer, it should come as no surprise that Lowry will want to do whatever he can to get on the floor to face his longtime friend and former co-star, but he and the team will have to weigh both the short and long-term benefits before making their decision closer to tip-off at 8 pm ET.
