Toronto Raptors assistant coach Tom Sterner is no stranger to the camera. His half-time interviews have become an internet phenomenon thanks to Sterner’s intensity when he’s on the mic.
Sterner made an appearance on the Free Association, Sportsnet’s weekly Raptors and NBA podcast, and explained why he’s always so passionate during his interviews.
“A lot of people are intimidated by that lens- I’m not. I look directly at the lens, because I’m looking at the people in the viewing audience. I’m talking to all of them.”
‘TV Tom’ also revealed the secrets to the perfect half-time interview (Gregg Popovich, take note), the origin of his aforementioned nickname, and what movie phrase he repeats in his head to get himself pumped up before going on the air.
