Report: Celtics came close to trading Allen

The Boston Celtics were minutes away from breaking up their Big Three at the NBA Trade Deadline.

According to a report from Yahoo! Sports, the Celtics had agreed to send veteran Ray Allen to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for O.J. Mayo and a draft pick until the trade fell through.

Celtics head coach Doc Rivers reportedly informed Allen that he had been shipped to Memphis before the trade dissolved.

Allen wasn’t the only Celtics player who almost got moved before the end of the Trade Deadline, as GM Danny Ainge was working on a blockbuster deal with the New Jersey Nets for guard/forward Paul Pierce.

Ainge was said to be eyeing first-round draft choices for the upcoming draft.

The Celtics remain in first place in the Atlantic Division standings and currently sit in the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference.
