Report: 76ers trading Markelle Fultz to Magic

Michael Grange joins Prime Time Sports to evaluate the Sixers acquiring Tobias Harris and Milwaukee adding Nikola Mirotic.

The Philadelphia 76ers are trading Markelle Fultz to the Orlando Magic for Jonathon Simmons and two draft picks, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.

Fultz was drafted by the 76ers using the first overall pick in 2017 but has endured a bizarre NBA career so far. Since making his debut, he has failed to live up to expectations — in large part due to a problematic shooting and a mysterious shoulder injury that has forced him out of the lineup since early December.

In the 33 games he has played over his first two NBA seasons, Fultz has averaged 7.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists on 41 per cent shooting from the field — including an abysmal 28 per cent from three-point range.

Simmons has averaged 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 41 games with the Magic this year. He earns $6 million this year and $5.7 million in 2019-20, after which he will become an unrestricted free agent.
