Former Denver Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw will be the head coach of the new G League elite development team, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
So far, three players have committed out of high school to the team for the 2020-21 season. The new program is designed for elite players to skip the NCAA, get paid to play and still be eligible for the draft. The roster features shooting guard Jalen Green, who could go first overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, as well as power forward Isaiah Todd and point guard Daishen Nix.
“There’s nothing wrong with college basketball,” Green said after announcing his decision. “I have a lot of friends that I played with in college right now. But I just felt this was the best route for me. Being different, I carried that through high school and this was another way that I could carry on being different.”
Shaw was the head coach of the Nuggets for less than two seasons between 2013–15, and most recently was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers. He played 14 seasons in the NBA as a guard for the Celtics, Heat, Magic, Warriors, 76ers, Trail Blazers and Lakers.
