He has yet to even join the Raptors but Marcus Camby already wants back out of Toronto.
Camby is set to become a Raptor as part of the deal Toronto has in place with New York which will see Andrea Bargnani join the Knicks at some point after the moratorium has lifted (July 10th) but his agent told the New York Post’s Marc Berman that he isn’t interested in heading back to the team that drafted him 17 seasons ago.
“We have a great deal of respect for and faith in the new management of the Raptors,” Camby’s agent Rick Kaplan told the newspaper. “So something is likely to work out for all involved.”
Camby won’t retire but is seeking to be traded or bought out. He has two years and $7.6 million left on his deal (only $1.2 million is guaranteed in the final season.)
“It’s unfortunate that I wasn’t given a meaningful opportunity to contribute last season in New York,” Camby said in a statement after the trade. “I was really looking forward to the upcoming year as a chance to show the organization what they missed out on last year, and pushing our team towards the Finals.’’
It remains to be seen if there is any market for a 39-year-old centre who appeared in 24 games last season although he was never likely part of the team’s long term plans.
