Toronto Raptors all-star DeMar DeRozan has officially opted out of his contract, according to a report from Chris Haynes of

The 26-year-old had a player option worth $9.5 million for the 2016-17 season. The announcement comes as no surprise as DeRozan is expected to command a max-level deal in the free agent market.

DeRozan is coming off the best season of his career having averaged 23.5 points and 4.0 assists per game on 45 per cent shooting from the field. He helped lead the Raptors to a franchise-record 56 wins and the second seed in the Eastern Conference. Toronto would go on to lose to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Conference Finals.

Teams can officially sign free agents beginning on July 7.
