The Memphis Grizzlies want former Golden State Warrior Andre Iguodala to report to training camp and reportedly will not engage in a buyout, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.

Iguodala was acquired by the Grizzlies — along with a protected 2024 first-round pick — on June 30 from the Warriors in exchange for Julian Washburn, as the latter club was forced to unload salary to make room for star acquisition D’Angelo Russell. The expectation was that Iguodala would receive a buyout so the three-time champion could play for a contender in what is expected to be his final season.

Currently in the middle of a rebuild, the Grizzlies are expected to try and trade Iguodala during the season to net some assets for the 35-year-old, as opposed to letting him leave for nothing.

However, Memphis could also benefit from having the veteran in the fold in 2019-20 to mentor young players like 2019 second-overall pick Ja Morant.
