While he hasn’t played professional basketball since 2011 (in Turkey), former NBA MVP Allen Iverson is set to officially retire, according to SLAM’s Tzvi Twersky.
The 38-year-old has remained silent since speaking to the press at a Philadelphia 76ers game on March 30.
“My No. 1 goal is trying to accomplish to be the best dad that I can,” he said at the time. “And if basketball is in my near future, then God will make that happen. But if not, I had a great ride and I’ve done a lot of special things that a lot of guys have not been able to accomplish and people thought I couldn’t accomplish.”
Iverson, who hasn’t played an NBA game since 2010 when he was in his second stint with the Sixers, averaged 26.7 points, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals over a 13-year career. In addition to being named MVP in 2001, he was selected to the NBA All-star team 11 times and won four scoring titles.
