The first head coach in Raptors 905 history is leaving the team to join Luke Walton’s staff with the Los Angeles Lakers, NBA analyst Dave Miller is reporting.

The 35-year-old Mermuys joined the Toronto Raptors as an assistant coach for the 2013-14 season after spending four seasons as an assistant, video coordinator and advanced scout for the Denver Nuggets. He also spent the 2012–13 season with the Houston Rockets as an assistant coach and director of player development.

After spending two seasons behind the Raptors bench as part of Dwane Casey’s staff, Mermuys was named the first ever head coach of Raptors 905, the team’s D-League affiliate based in Mississauga. Mermuys also acted as the team’s assistant general manager.

He led the 905 to a 23-27 record in their inaugural season, which included an exciting 18-9 run to close the year.
