Sacramento Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox suffered a Grade 3 left-ankle sprain at practice on Monday that will reportedly keep him sidelined for at least three-to-four weeks, at which point he will be re-evaluated, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.
There are three grades of ankle sprains, with Grade 1 being the least-severe and Grade 3 being the most-severe. In Grade 3 sprains, like Fox’s, a full tear or rupture of ligaments within the ankle has occurred.
ESPN’s Zach Lowe, who initially reported the injury, clarified that the sprain was caused by a teammate stepping on Fox’s foot.
Fox finished third in voting for the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award last season with 47 total votes, behind winner Pascal Siakam and runner-up D’Angelo Russell.
Through the first nine games of his third season, Fox is averaging 18.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists while shooting 43 per cent from the field.
