NBA commissioner Adam Silver met with a potential Montreal ownership group about one day bringing a team to the city, according to a report by Le Journal de Montreal, as roughly translated by SLAM Magazine.

The group, which included Montreal Canadiens owner Geoff Molson, vice president Kevin Gilmore and Conservative senator Michael Fortier, met with Silver in New York in January and was reportedly told that no NBA team was currently up for expansion.

The report states the group informed the commissioner that an NBA team would be “welcome” at the Bell Centre, which has been home of the Canadiens since 1996.
