The NBA has reportedly informed teams that the projected salary cap for the 2020–21 season is $115 million, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The original estimate for the upcoming cap was $116 million. Although the latest projection is slightly lower than that, it is still a significant increase from $109.1 million, which was the number for 2019-20.

Wojnarowski adds that the luxury tax (a penalty for high-spending teams that choose to operate above the soft cap) is projected to be $139 million.

Teams and agents alike had been prepared for a bit of a lower projection (with the loss of revenue from China one of the primary concerns), so these numbers are likely to be somewhat encouraging. The early reports will allow teams to make more informed fiscal decisions regarding the upcoming trade deadline (Feb. 6) and off-season.

For now, these numbers remain projections. The final figures will be calculated and established in June.
