Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving is likely to undergo a procedure on his right shoulder and miss an extended period of time, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.

Irving also missed 26 games earlier in 2019-20 with an impingement. He received a cortisone shot in December, but revealed that surgery may still be necessary.

He hasn’t played since the Nets’ loss to the Washington Wizards on Feb. 1 as he dealt with a sprained right knee.

The 27-year-old is averaging 27.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists on 47.8 per cent shooting from the field during his first season in Brooklyn. He signed a four-year, $141-million contract with the Nets in the off-season.
