Millsap suffered the injury as a result of an awkward fall on Friday against the Charlotte Hornets and was coming off a week in which he had won Western Conference Player of the Week.
On the season, the 33-year-old is averaging 13.6 points, seven rebounds, two assists, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks.
Canadian Trey Lyles received a significant boost in playing time when Millsap was injured last year and figures to receive a similar minutes increase again. Kitchener, Ont., native Jamal Murray will also be expected to carry more of the scoring burden.
Earlier on Monday, the Nuggets announced the signing of sharpshooter Nick Young to the injury hardship relief exception, which is granted by the NBA, and waived guard Brandon Goodwin.
The Nuggets are 17-9 on the season but have lost two straight after an impressive seven-game win streak.
