The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to re-sign Pau Gasol to a three-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Gasol’s salary has yet to be announced as he enters his 17th year in the NBA come the 2017-18 season, but there are reports that the last year of his deal will include a partial guarantee.
In June, the seven-foot centre opted out of a $16.2 million option for the 2017-18 season, in order to give the Spurs as much financial freedom as possible this off-season.
A former two-time champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, Gasol will continue to serve as a valuable veteran for a Spurs team that’s made the playoffs 20 straight times.
Even though he’s past his peak as a six-time all-star, Gasol continues to expand his game. Last season, he hit a career-high 53.8 per cent of his attempts from three-point distance, to go along with 12.4 points, 78 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in around 25 minutes a game.
