The San Antonio Spurs and veteran power forward Pau Gasol have agreed to a contract buyout paving the way for Gasol to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting.
Gasol is a former six-time all-star and two-time NBA champion. He spent the last two seasons with the Spurs and this season in San Antonio has been averaging only 4.2 points per game in 27 games played as he’s been slow to get get back in a groove after missing some time with a right foot injury early in the season.
"Pau Gasol is an exceptional individual and the ultimate professional," coach Gregg Popovich said. "We are grateful for his contributions on the court, in the locker room and in our community."
The 38-year-old was owed approximately $16 million this season and was guaranteed $6.7 million next season with the Spurs.
Gasol would’ve had until 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday to sign with a new club after getting bought out in order to be considered eligible for the post-season.
The Toronto Raptors acquired his brother, Marc, in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this season.
