The Toronto Raptors made a big splash at the NBA trade deadline by acquiring Marc Gasol, but they could have potentially added an even bigger star.
According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, the Raptors were among four teams on Kristaps Porzingis’ “wish list of trade destinations,” before the New York Knicks moved the star power forward to the Dallas Mavericks.
Per Stein:
The four teams Porzingis had on his wish list of trade destinations were the Nets, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors, according to two people with knowledge of the list who were not authorized to discuss it publicly. The Knicks, of course, traded Porzingis to the Mavericks.
While we’ll never know what a Porzingis trade between the Knicks and Raptors would have looked like, the news that he’s even interested in coming to Toronto should make Raptors fans happy.
The team has come a long way from the days when Toronto, at least according to Chris Bosh, “just wasn’t as appealing.”
