Report: Raptors’ Leonard won’t attend USA Basketball minicamp

Tim Micallef returns from vacation and joins Faizal Khamisa to offer his thoughts on the trade that sent DeMar DeRozan to the Spurs and Kawhi Leonard to the Raptors.

New Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard won’t attend a USA Basketball minicamp in Las Vegas this week, according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes.

Leonard will instead use the time to prepare for his transition to the Raptors.

Toronto acquired the forward, along with Danny Green, from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a draft pick on July 19.

Leonard played in just nine games this past season, dealing with an injury to his right quadriceps. Discontent over the Spurs’ handling of the injury led Leonard to reportedly request a trade out of San Antonio.

The 27-year-old could opt out of his contract and become a free agent after next season.
