As the Washington Wizards look to replace longtime general manager Ernie Grunfeld, a familiar name to Toronto Raptors fans has popped up in the rumour mill among people connected to the job.
According to Ben Standig of NBC Sports Washington, Raptors president Masai Ujiri “is intrigued by the idea of moving to Washington.”
The reason for this, the report states, is because Ujiri’s wife, Ramatu, apparently grew up in the D.C. area and the supposed attraction that being in the U.S. capital could do for his Basketball Without Borders program.
But despite these reasons, Standig still concedes that the chances Ujiri makes the jump to Washington is “a significant long shot” because it’s unlikely the Raptors would allow Ujiri to even interview for another team’s job opening, including the Los Angeles Lakers vacant position, the report says.
Given the job Ujiri has done with the Raptors it makes sense that he’d be a highly-desired commodity around the NBA. For now, though, it would seem as if there’s no clear threat of Ujiri leaving Toronto.
