The Milwaukee Bucks and centre Larry Sanders are nearing completion on a four-year, $44-million contract extension, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 24-year-old centre had a breakout season in 2012-13 averaging 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. The Bucks are clearly counting on Sanders to anchor their frontline for years to come.

He will be surrounded by an almost entirely new cast next season as Milwaukee has added 11 new faces to the roster including Luke Ridnour, O.J. Mayo, Carlos Delfino and Zaza Pachulia. Among the departures were Mike Dunleavy (Chicago), J.J. Redick (L.A. Clippers), Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings (Detroit).

So far Washington Wizards guard John Wall is the only player from the draft class of 2010 to receive and extension although DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings are also said to have had discussions.

NBA teams have until Oct. 31 to reach extensions with players from that draft class.
