The Toronto Raptors have expressed interest in acquiring four-time All-Star Rajon Rondo from the Boston Celtics, according to Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun.
A two-time All-Defensive first team selection, the Raptors brass is reportedly very high on Rondo’s defensive prowess. Wolstat says the New York Knicks have continued to pursue Kyle Lowry and Toronto has explored ways to bring in a replacement at point guard. Lowry’s contract expires at the end of this season.
Rondo has played in just 10 games this season after tearing his ACL last January, putting up a stat line of 9.8 points, 7.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game to go along a 42 percent field-goal percentage.
The 27-year-old, who will become an unrestricted free agent after next season, is making $11.9 million this season and will earn $12.9 million next season. Sam Smith of Bulls.com has reported the Celtics asking price for him is two unprotected first-round picks.
Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports has reported that the Sacramento Kings and Celtics discussed a deal that would send Rondo to the California capitol in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, rookie Ben McLemore and a pick, but the deal fell apart because Rondo supposedly wasn’t interested in signing a long-term deal with the Kings.
