Report: Toronto Raptors sign West Virginia forward Sagaba Konate

The Raptors selected Dewan Hernandez 59th overall at the NBA Draft.

The Toronto Raptors have signed undrafted forward Sagaba Konate out of West Virginia, according to The Athletic‘s Michael Scotto.

Konate’s athleticism and elite shot-blocking garnered some NBA interest after a strong 2017-18 campaign, but he opted to return to the Mountaineers for his junior year to continue his development. An early-season knee injury kept him off the court for all but seven games, however, which ultimately led to his going undrafted a year later.

Konate now has the opportunity to impress Raptors brass during the upcoming NBA Summer League, and will have a shot at making the roster out of training camp or being named to the Raptors’ G League squad, Raptors 905.

The Raptors have built a strong reputation for taking chances on players (they took Pascal Siakam, a relatively unknown at the time, 27th overall in 2016) and signing undrafted free agents (they scooped up Fred VanVleet that summer). Both spent time developing with the Raptors 905 before making the NBA roster playing huge roles in the claiming Toronto’s first-ever NBA championship this season.
