The Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson plan to agree to a five-year, $190-million deal, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
On Friday, it was reported that the Warriors would offer a max contract to Thompson when the NBA’s free agency period opened on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
Teams who were in on Thompson were apparently resigned to the fact that he was going to sign a new contract with Golden State, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Thompson was set to become a free agent for the first time in his career this summer after spending the eight seasons of his NBA career with the Warriors. The 29-year-old’s next move was supposedly up in the air after suffering a torn ACL in Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors, who went on to win the title.
This past season, Thompson averaged 21.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists, while shooting 41.9 per cent from three-point range.
