The Golden State Warriors have reached an agreement to sign Andrew Bogut once he receives his letter of clearance from the Sydney Kings of Australia’s National Basketball League, according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes.
Bogut, 34, hasn’t played in the NBA since 2017-18 as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. He was the league MVP and Defensive Player of the Year this season for the Kings in Australia, averaging 11.4 points and 11.6 rebounds per game.
Prior reports indicated both the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics were also showing interest in the centre.
Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
Bogut played four seasons with the Warriors and was a member of the 2014-15 championship team. Golden State had been looking to shore up its big-man depth for the playoffs, with Robin Lopez reportedly being a primary target. However, the Chicago Bulls reportedly refused to negotiate a buyout with him.
In addition to providing championship experience and a familiarity with the Warriors’ system, Bogut has averaged 9.8 points and 8.7 rebounds throughout his 13-year NBA career.
