Twitter reaction: LeBron to Lakers means ‘Space Jam 2’ hype

LeBron James has agreed to a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

John Tavares deciding to join the Toronto Maple Leafs wasn’t the biggest free agent news to come out of the sports world Sunday — not by a long shot.

LeBron James agreed to a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers worth just shy of $154 million, shaking up the landscape in the NBA.

James, selected first-overall by the Cavs in 2003, spent the first seven years of his NBA career in Cleveland before taking his talents to South Beach and joining the Miami Heat as a free agent in 2010 where he ended up winning two championships. The Akron, Ohio native went back Cleveland in 2014 where he helped lead the Cavs to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances.

“Thank you Northeast Ohio for an incredible 4 seasons,” James wrote in an Instagram story caption. “This will always be home.”

The 33-year-old eventually joining a Western Conference team — specifically the Lakers — has long been speculated about and, predictably, Twitter was on 🔥 as soon as Klutch Sports Group, his agency, broke the news.

James has dabbled in acting in recent years and received critical acclaim for his role as an exaggerated version of himself in the 2015 comedy Trainwreck. Heading to Hollywood could theoretically lead to more roles on the big screen, including a starring role in Space Jam 2, which just happens to be in production.

One more layer in the MJ versus LeBron debate.
